Creating Gender Inclusive Classrooms and Schools

Gender inclusivity and sensitivity to student differences have become a focal point of many discussions in the media, in school administrations, and between teachers. But, what can you, as an educator, actually do right now to effectively implement strategies to increase the level of safety and inclusion in your classroom so that all of your students can perform to their potential?

This one-day class will cover the importance of supporting non-binary gender creativity in the classroom, with specific ideas for creating a more inclusive environment—that will benefit all students. The instructor will use interactive projects and role-play to explore how language makes a difference. You will learn specific techniques (that you can use right away) to support acceptance and freedom of expression in the classroom and in the school at large; not just between students, but among students and staff. Time will be set aside to problem solve specific issues that class members have witnessed or are struggling with in their own schools or classrooms.

The overall goal of our Gender Inclusivity and LGBTQ Sensitivity Trainings is to provide practical skills that lead to deeper understanding about gender, children and youth, and how this relates to optimal emotional and academic success for students.

Instructor: Mark Beauregard, MA, LCAT, RDT  Mark has been teaching, healing, and writing about gender issues for many years. He is one of only a handful of New York City based experts offering trainings of this kind directly to teachers and other education professionals.
