Douglas Amport and John La Polla founded Bitter & Esters, the city’s first do-it-yourself brewery and homebrew supply shop, motivated by their knowledge and passion for brewing as equal parts art and science. Fueled by the desire to inspire, educate, and nurture the growing homebrew community in a friendly space, they conceived Bitter & Esters as a brew on premises location, complete with classes, and access to resources, as well as a supply store and creative hub for sharing brew tips and techniques.

Bitter & Esters fosters a deep commitment to the craft of brewing, as well as the creative spirit that comes with it. Anyone can learn how, so stop by! See what you can brew.

A great follow up to 101. This class followed a similar format to 101 but we were walked through the all-grain process as an alternative to boil in a bag. Very informative with more in depth discussion into the mashing process.

Very information. Class began with a beer brewed by a previous class (which they can give away but not sell). We were walked through the entire process of home brewing by boil in a bag technique from a discussion and sampling of the grains used to the water, yeast and hops. After this class we went home and brewed our first batch which has since been bottled and will be ready next week!

Very good class, very informative and clear. No step was left out. The instructor was very knowledgeable but also very friendly. They served us 2 large beers during the class, both delicious. If you think you might want to brew your own beer, this is definitely the best way to start.

I gifted this calss to my boyfriend because he is a super beer lover and wants to start brewing at home, I went with him because I thought it would be fun to learn. The class was super informative, very complete and clear. The instructor and all the employees at the shop are knowledgeable and very charismatic. Dave (I believe is his name) went trough everything in detail and was happy to answer any and all questions - some answers also came with advise rooted from personal experience, which I feel is super valuable. We got to try 2 beers brewed at the shop and we left with a how-to manual and recipe to try. Its great that they have all the equipment available at a reasonable price - we are going back at the end of the month to purchase ours. If you have some experience or no experience at all (like us) and are looking for guidance, this should he your 1st stop. A thousand thumbs up.
