  • Tai Chi Fundamentals: Not Only For Beginners

    Anonymous • March 12, 2020
TaiChi Ray’s class was remarkable in that I actually felt more calm and relaxed whilst performing the movements. The class consisted of only 6 or 7 participants, which allowed Ray to monitor how well we were receiving his instructions. The Qi Gong moves and the breath work seemed simple and easy enough to do but coordinating the movements to synchronize with breathing needed some effort.I will try to practice them from here onwards. I can see myself attending more classes in the future and highly recommend Tai Chi Ray’s method of teaching this time-honored practice of Tai Qi and Qi Gong.

The course was extremely helpful in reframing how we see stress. The instructor, Priti was so wonderful and made me feel heard and seen. Her good cheer and positive energy was infectious. I’d highly recommend this course. My only complaint is that it was only 3 sessions, once a week. I’d have liked there to be at least 2 sessions a week!

  • Personal Training Certificate Program

    Franziska S • April 2, 2018
I loved everything about the PT certificate program at AAPT! I was in Ciaran Cribbs class - an absolutely amazing instructor. I would like to say the BEST! I wholeheartedly believe that I could not have been in better hands and received better training than from him. He has a wealth of knowledge, brings it to his students in a serious, organized, understandable and interesting (and also entertaining) way and he has the hands on experience that helped us greatly to translate theory into real life. I looked forward to class each day and enjoyed every moment of the theoretical and practical portions of the course. As a new bee with little prior knowledge it was challenging but Ciaran was with us every step of the way and made sure that we understood, grasped and embodied not only the concepts but also the execution of the various forms that are part of personal training. I would and will highly recommend AAPT (and Ciaran) to anyone interested in Personal Training.
  • Personal Training Certificate Program

    Luke J • April 2, 2018
The school is amazing and taught me a great deal. Switching careers from telesales to personal training is challenging, but the course definitely got me ready and up to speed. Now, I currently have a job at Equinox.
  • Personal Training Certificate Program

    Racquel G • April 2, 2018
I loved how hands on AAPT's program was. It allowed for opportunities to see where you made errors and fix them. All of the resources and people that are available to the students are endless. You get to experience trainers training their clients, ask questions and learn from others in person. My teacher was Tennille and she was very helpful as a teacher. She was very thorough and gave extra information that I think really helped alot.

Students will set goals for the floor, balance beam, uneven bars, vault, rings, and single rail bar with the guidance of USAG-certified teachers. The class is $25 and open to all levels of students. Or, a fun fusion workout using Latin and international themes like Zumba could interest you. Also located at 92Y, this class has eight sessions and includes interval and resistance training for a total body experience. The course is $225, and each session lasts for 55 minutes. Finally, there's Iyengar Yoga, a unique format of yoga that focuses on building strength, balance, and flexibility while engaging in various yoga poses. Virtual Fitness Classes & Schools

You are not alone if you find yourself drawn to an online fitness school and courses. Many students enjoy a virtual option because of the convenience and more options. You can take a virtual fitness course from anywhere as long as you have internet access and enough space to move around safely. Taking an online course means that you have access to more fitness schools. Fitness schools worldwide can offer classes at various times, giving you more class options. From a pilates class in New York to a Yoga class in the Midwest, you have access to many more options thanks to a virtual platform option.

Though convenience and more options are great benefits, there can be some drawbacks. One considerable drawback is the need to purchase your equipment. When you take a class online, equipment is usually not provided. That means if you need hand weights or a yoga mat for a class, you are expected to have your own. It is essential to consider that typical at-home classes only require a little equipment, especially if it is a beginners level class. Another drawback is that it can be hard to stay motivated because there is little connection with others. Limited contact makes it hard to feel committed to an activity, or you can even be missing an accountability partner. Consider having a friend help hold you accountable, even if they are not in the same class as you, to help with this potential obstacle.

Once you decide online classes are for you, you have many options to choose from when it comes to online fitness classes. For example, if you are interested in learning yoga, quite a few courses are offered. You could try Slow Flow, offered virtually at Essential Evolution Holistic Wellness. For $18, students can expect an hour-long, all-level slow vinyasa flow moving through deep stretching and strengthening. Students can expect a moving flow of yoga postures focusing on breath and body awareness. The link for the class is emailed to students thirty minutes before class. If that’s not enough, the Chicago Botanic Garden offers a Yoga Unlimited Semester Pass: Online. For $362, students get unlimited access to all online yoga classes offered each semester. If you want to take an online course at a local institution, Tai Chi Upper West Side provides Tai Chi Beginner Virtual. It’s a small group class sharing Tai Chi Fundamentals and Principles while helping with balance, physical and mental stress relief, and overall mind-body well-being. The course lasts for one hour and costs only $20. Online class options are plentiful, and there is undoubtedly something for everyone, no matter your fitness level.
