Slice into knowledge at Cheese 101, an introductory journey into the world of cheese. A Murray’s expert will guide you through a tasting of exceptional cheeses representing six cheese families, delving into everything from rind development to milk type. Expect a lively discussion of flavor and texture between sips of house wine. You’ll leave with a newfound understanding of cheese—how it’s made, what creates each unique variety, and why your favorites taste so good.

Format: guided tasting with a Murray’s expert in our classroom

Includes: 6 cheeses, signature accompaniments

Beverages: red and white wine

In-person classes take place in the classrooms located at our Bleecker Street store. Our classrooms are located upstairs and downstairs at our venue and are therefore not wheelchair accessible.

Is the class safe for those pregnant?

Hi Svetlana! It is not unsafe for pregnant women but they would need to let Murray's Cheese know ahead of time. If someone pregnant signs up, you can send us an email before the class date so that Murray's Cheese can set their seat accordingly. This would mean they would leave your seat alcohol free, and also make sure that all of the cheese on your plate are pasteurized. Hope this helps!

Relaxed, informal atmosphere with friendly staff that feels like a class / cocktail party without the mingling. A little difficult to hear from the back section of the room a mic would solve for this. Wish we learned more of a method to identify cheese attributes like crystallization than the cheeses themselves.

Instructor was great and informational, learned a lot about different cheeses and learned a lot about cheeses I liked/don’t like. Great experience, even went downstairs afterward and took a couple of the cheeses we tried home. Drinks and snacks were great as well. Keep up the good work!

The teacher of the class, Chiara, was friendly and very informative. She encouraged us to ask questions and didnt cut her answers short. Also, there was unlimited white and red wine to go with the seven delicious cheese samples and great snacks too! I highly recommend this class and plan to attend the other classes they offer! A very enjoyable experience!
