Trestle’s community classes program called Trestle Workshops offers instruction in a wide variety of artist techniques and theories, as well as training in professional practices. This program serves a dual purpose of educating artists in new media and creating jobs for highly-trained teaching artists. The classes attract a wide range of artists from the neighborhood and help Trestle participate in the life of the local community while providing professional-level artistic instruction to a wide audience.
Trestle Workshops is located in the Greenwood section of Brooklyn on the Ground Floor of 62 18th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11232.
I really enjoyed my time in this class! Erik was very patient and prepared for just about any question we threw at him. We made a solid use of the time allotted; I almost wish I brought along more materials to practice on. I highly recommend this class.
I really enjoyed this class. It was very easy going and Nathan was very personable and helpful. The class size was small so there was a lot of personal attention and assistance if needed. If there are more in depth classes, I would be very interested in signing up!
the teacher is very talented and is definitely a professional. I think it would've been helpful to have a little more individual criticism by the teacher though. she could spend a few seconds or minutes throughout each class to give individualized observations to help the student improve on their weaknesses. Overall a good class.
Amazing !! Erik was super friendly and helpful - you will learn all the fundamentals you need to create silkscreen prints at home, and you’ll walk away with a stencil you can use over and over again!
The course was in a very comfortable atmosphere The course was encouraging to draw The course was maybe a little bit too less about techniques The course had the right amount of people
Allison (the teacher) explained everything well and made drawing easy - for a beginner like me
Enjoyed the space to draw and explore spring blooms.
Erik was a very informative instructor who made the learning experience a pleasure.
I've been drawing forever, but have always wanted to try my hand at painting – I just don't know anything about techniques and wanted a space to explore and learn the basics. This class is just what I was looking for! It has a relaxed, not-too-structured vibe because the class is quite small (I've taken it twice now and have been one of 3 students both times). If you're looking for something super rigorous this may not be it, but if you're looking to work on your skills in a low-pressure environment with a teacher who will personalize assignments to you, you won't be disappointed :) Zach is a wonderful artist and encouraging teacher with an encyclopedic knowledge of both art history and the more contemporary scene.
Great intro class
