This was a great class. We came away with a plethora of USEFUL resources for researching. Our professor works in the field so she's used all these tools. Also, we learned the newest high tech 'delvers'. We were asked to bring in our own PCs, etc. and for the techie class Aimee Rinehart invited in another journalist/tech guru so we could work on our own devices and test the new tools. Because there was more than one person trying to help (and imagine all the different devices and operating systems), it went quickly and smoothly, and no one was discouraged. Along with the knowledge imparted and the shared experience, we were asked to share our own current reporting challenges. We worked as a group to try to help one another solve the puzzles of finding specific information on topics. Also, we had a New York Times researcher come in: you can't get much better than that! She shared her 'boots on the ground' stories and how it works at the Times when research is required (and it's always required) and how to double and triple check your sources. I came away with a large research toolbox, and knowledge about other reporters quests, and the teachers' willingness to assist each student with their interests. The classes at Newmark Journalism are incredible. This is my third one. I've signed up for another one. They're taught by 'boots on the ground' professionals who inject experience in with the knowledge; examples to use the tools.

This was Kaufman's challenge; teach writers of all levels structure of narrative writing, in two 2 hour classes. Kaufman has the experience and chops to give the class, with a hefty portfolio. Assigned quick pieces, these were put up on a screen so the group could critique, objectively. II would take another class from him. [BTW broke many Kaufman rules in this review - adjectives, adverbs, passive verbs - but didn't have three hours to revise, okay?]
